The day was September 11, 2015 (never forget). Two Juniors at the University of Texas at Austin had RSVPd yes to a party on Facebook with the promise of a bounce house in the backyard of a North Campus home. That evening, in the bounce house, their lives would be changed forever.
After several months of seeing each other out and about, Sonia and Alexander spent hours in front of the Tower discussing, amongst other things, their mutual hatred of the UT Student Government system the Friday night before spring break. It was over that spring break when they were both in Dallas that they went on their first date at the Dallas Museums of Art and dinner at Chuys. From then on, they were inseparable.
Over the next year in Austin, Sonia (and eventually Alexander) graduated and they moved into their first apartment in Hyde Park before Alexander moved to Baltimore for Teach for America. Not long after, Sonia joined him in Washington, DC in 2019. It was then that they adopted their beloved cat, “Cat” and built a life for themselves.
In February 2024, Alexander made Sonia an honest woman by faking a fire at the local High School (IYKYK) to lure her to the roof of their apartment and surprise her with a full proposal set up. Ten years after meeting, they are excited to finally make things official surrounded by family, friends, and all their loved ones.
